Cambrian College launches with TalkCampus in Preparation for the Upcoming Holiday Period

Being able to connect digitally makes this support even more accessible for our students, and will increase our capacity for mental health care, especially during the holiday periods and evenings when our on-campus support services are not available."

Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology has launched with TalkCampus in preparation for the upcoming holiday period, recognizing the importance of continuity of care throughout the semester breaks. Rather than only having access to support while on campus, students will now have access to immediate support wherever they are in the world, and whenever they need it.

“We know that a platform like TalkCampus has the ability to reach and support those students who don’t feel confident or ready to reach out to more traditional services offered on campus. Being able to connect digitally makes this support even more accessible for our students, and will increase our capacity for mental health care, especially during the holiday periods and evenings when our on-campus support services are not available. We know that TalkCampus will augment and enhance our existing student support services and we are so excited to be able to offer our students access to this powerful student community.” - Seija Korpela, Director, Accessibility, Counselling and Wellness

One of the key elements that appealed to the Cambrian College team, was that students are able to connect with each other in up to 26 different languages. This is one way the team is able to overcome the language barriers that surround mental health support for their international student community. The TalkCampus global Trust and Safety team works around the clock, across multiple time zones, and is readily available to intervene in real time if a Cambrian student is struggling.

Cambrian College also looks forward to encouraging its students to take part in TalkCampus’ peer support training program, which helps students learn to become the best supporter that they can be. Students will learn a range of skills to help them to feel more comfortable supporting others during difficult conversations, and become a force for good both in the TalkCampus community and on campus.

“The holidays can be the toughest times of the year for many, with feelings of loneliness and isolation not uncommon among students. Continuity of care through semester breaks is an essential part of helping students to maintain their mental health and in turn their academic performance and the retention and graduation rates of an institution. The value of having an engaging place to talk to other students about their mental health and well-being during their studies is hugely significant, and peer support platforms like TalkCampus can help students to boost resilience and realize their higher education ambitions. We are delighted to be partnering with Cambrian College and we look forward to welcoming their students onto our platform.” Kelsey Mulcahy, Head of TalkCampus
