Empowering Parkland College Students: TalkCampus for 24/7 Mental Health Support

Updated: Jul 10

Parkland College is a public community college in Champaign, Illinois. Established in 1966, the institution has since been committed to offering a comprehensive yet flexible student experience accessible to everyone who wants to go ahead in life.

Every year, Parkland College welcomes thousands of students beginning their academic journey or preparing for a rewarding career. With over 130 degrees and certificates, students can study in-person or remotely to meet their individual needs. The community college is home to a diverse community, and proud to represent over 40 countries on campus.

Whether they’re an 18-year-old living on-campus or a mature student studying remotely to change careers, the team at Parkland College is passionate about offering their student community a fulfilling and rewarding experience.

From counselling to accessibility services, mental health resources and financial aid, Parkland College offers a panoply of wellbeing and academic support to its students. But with such a diverse student body, the team was looking for a way to reach every student when they most need support, whether they’re at home or on campus.

TalkCampus proved to be the perfect solution for Parkland College’s needs. The platform provides 24/7 access to a global community where students can share and receive support from their peers day and night, wherever they are. The team at Parkland College liked the platform’s ability to cover a range of student demographics with a global and truly diverse mental health community, supporting students from 5 continents and across 26 languages.

They also appreciated the possibility of embedding their existing wellness services for intelligent signposting alongside TalkCampus’ verified 24/7 crisis support options and global resources. This will help the college raise awareness about available services and allow Parkland’s student population to easily access the support they need.

As part of our commitment to promoting student wellbeing, we are pleased to introduce TalkCampus as a new addition to our range of support services. Our aim is to use this platform as a central hub to guide students toward the resources they require.
Peer support is a crucial aspect of mental health care, and it offers students a flexible and convenient way to connect with like-minded individuals. We are especially enthusiastic about the opportunities TalkCampus provides for our diverse student community, as it offers support in multiple languages.” - Stephanie Davingman LCSW LMFT, Dean of Counselling Services at Parkland College
