Lincoln University of Missouri has launched peer-to-peer support platform TalkCampus, to help reach those students who are outside of their existing support framework.
Recognising that not all students feel comfortable seeking out traditional counselling services, the team saw TalkCampus as a great entry point for those students to encourage help seeking behaviour, as well as act as an extended point of care for those students already engaging with counselling services.
We welcome Lincoln students to the platform where they can access a safe and supportive community built from the ground up for mental health combining real-time 24/7 safeguarding and escalation, trained peer supporters and professional staff.
"We are excited to be able to offer our students access to peer support through our partnership with TalkCampus. We know for many students reaching out to traditional counselling services can be daunting, and TalkCampus will provide those students the opportunity to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings in an anonymous, safe and supportive environment." - Leasa Weghorst, Director, Student Health and Counselling Services
TalkCampus is a proactive and preventative mental health solution that is inclusive of all students, whether on campus or studying remotely. A combination of peer support, machine learning and innovative design mean that students have a community that makes talking about how they’re really feeling that little bit easier.
The benefits of peer support are wide-ranging and well evidenced. Peer support can be an effective mechanism to support people with anxiety, depression, addiction and many other mental health issues. Participating in peer to peer support has been linked to: an increased ability to cope, a greater sense of wellbeing & resilience, higher levels of self-esteem and confidence.
“‘Studying can be a really challenging time for students and it’s not easy to admit that you’re struggling or to take the first steps to reach out for help. We’re delighted to be launching TalkCampus for Lincoln University students and to be able to offer an engaging place for them to talk to students about their mental health and wellbeing.” Andrew Welch, Head of Partnerships, TalkCampus.
